What's on my mind...

Beyond the Basics - window seats

I've always loved window seats and now realize how I didn't appreciate the one I had in my childhood bedroom. Thinking back, my built-in window seat would have been a great place to curl up with a good book.

Even if you don't have a built-in window seat, you can easily create one. In some cases, you may want a built-in solution and can have one constructed. You can also incorporate a storage solution as well, which is a bonus. In other cases, you can create a portable seat using a trunk or storage box. It can double as a table as well. In a small room, you can add some seating along a window wall, which will act as a sofa does without eating up valuable floor space.

Get creative. There are lots of options when looking for an already-constructed piece to fill your needs. An unused piece of furniture can find new life as a window seat. Yard sales, antique and consignments shops offer a large variety of items that may be the perfect solution. You may even find a solution in your own attic or basement!
